Matthew is a Technical Account Manager in the Client Services Department (CSD) at the Yardi Toronto office. He focuses on Yardi Breeze Premier conversions, where he helps clients in North America migrate and upgrade from Yardi Genesis and Yardi Genesis2 to Breeze Premier. Matthew’s journey exemplifies how the company nurtures career growth, dedication and adaptability amidst exciting changes in real estate and technology.

Tell us about your adventure at Yardi! What twists and turns brought you to your current role?

I joined Yardi in September 2021. I started with the Breeze Premier CSD team, doing chat support for clients. Since then I have onboarded new clients and existing clients to Yardi Breeze Premier on two different teams. Each role has been a great learning experience. In fact, my previous team leads played a huge part in guiding my decision to move from role to role, offering advice and encouragement every step of the way.

What keeps you excited and engaged in your role?

The people here are amazing! The collaborative environment, the drive to support my team, and the clients keep me engaged and excited about my work. Whether it’s brainstorming solutions with my colleagues or receiving a kind word of encouragement, the supportive atmosphere at Yardi truly makes a difference.

In my role, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of Yardi Breeze Premier’s largest Canadian clients, like Shelborne CAPITAL. Helping them optimize their processes while maintaining their operations has been incredibly rewarding. I strive to treat all clients with the same level of respect and care, regardless of their size, which I believe is essential in providing excellent customer service.

I’ve learned a lot from our internal resources. We have team meetings and training sessions that keep us informed about industry and software changes. Outside of work, I stay updated through news and articles, especially on artificial intelligence (AI) developments. It’s important to stay current with the latest market shifts and technology to better serve our clients’ current and future needs.

What’s key in ensuring clients have a seamless experience?

Collaboration is key to ensuring a seamless client experience. Our conversion team often works with other teams, like Yardi Payment Processing or RentCafe, across various locations, including Toronto, Saskatoon and the U.S. With over 9,300 employees globally, you can imagine how important it is to have effective communication between departments. By working together, we address all aspects of a client’s needs efficiently, demonstrating the strength of Yardi’s support network.

Helping clients transition smoothly to Breeze Premier involves meticulous planning and problem-solving. I ensure that their existing information is accurately onboarded and that they fully understand how to use the new system to enhance their processes. It’s all about being patient and dedicated to their success.

How do you keep a healthy work-life balance while managing the expectations of client interactions?

I set clear boundaries and deadlines within my work schedule by prioritizing tasks and communicating effectively with my team. Reliable management and the supportive, cross-functional work environment at Yardi have greatly helped me maintain this balance. Outside of work, I engage in various hobbies like playing volleyball, video games and walking my dog. These activities help me disconnect and recharge, so I can give my best at work. Having a balance between work and personal life is crucial for staying motivated and productive.

What growth and development opportunities have you discovered at Yardi?

My growth at Yardi has been fantastic! I’ve transitioned from chat support to implementation and now to conversion, each role offering new challenges and learning experiences. One of the best aspects has been the transparency about career development from my managers. This openness has given me confidence and excitement about my future here. Yardi is always developing new technology and involving existing staff in these advancements, which makes every day an exciting opportunity to learn and grow. Every new role has been a step forward in my career.

How do you see technology shaking up the industry and what cool opportunities and challenges does this bring for Yardi?

The tech industry is always evolving, and AI has the potential to make our processes more efficient. However, it’s essential to implement it correctly to ensure it supports our work without causing disruptions. The challenge lies in adapting to these changes and ensuring everyone is on board, but I’m excited to see how Yardi will continue to leverage this technology.
